Text to my girlfriend

Just left Aust*n ar*aob gyn. SO glad i went. Had to get a shot in my booty of Rhogam because I'm negative blood and brandos positive so if this pregnancy was positive blood then my body would learn to reject it. With the shot it recognizes it as ok. She said prob would've been ok otherwise because I may still have some in my system from the last ones but this ensures it so that this doesn't happen again for that specific reason any way not that that's what it was this time. Also did ultrasound and everything looks good. Hormone levels were so low when they did bloodwork last week they would count it as zero. They are SO NICE. I had Jack*e who was a nurse practitioner. SO knowledgeable and SO nice. They said they could do prenatal care if we try again and still have my midwife deliver if she's here or they can deliver if she's not. Good to know. That was something that was difficult and emotional to figure out in the moment. Peace of mind if we try again. Thank you for encouraging me to go there to make sure everything is okay!

  1. I'm confused...so is your midwife in cali? If so, (now all of these thoughts/questions are based on me thinking she is not local), how would she have done your prenatal care? Have you looked into finding a local midwife? I'm sure there are TONS of wonderful options in place like Austin! I was surprised to find how many wonderful options there were here.

I am with a group of three midwives who work closely with an OBGYN, so one midwife is always available, they always have TWO at every birth (one for mamma and one for baby), and incase a Dr. is needed, they have a close relationship built with one who is on call as needed.

  2. I hit send before I was finished. Doh.

Anyway, I would think if there are places like that one here, there must be lots of great options there! For stuff like this, I really wish I lived in Austin!

I'm SO glad everything is looking good and back to "normal". I've been thinking about you DAILY!! I'll be anxious for the next round of good news!!!! :) :) :)

  3. My midwife is retired in Florida now. She flies to California for births for family friends who are close and have had a lot of births with her. She flew out here for my nephew's wedding last year which is when she told me she would love to deliver ours. She's delivered 14 out of 16 grandchildren, including Justinbustin and Shawners. I didn't even realize her delivering was still an option which is kind of the reason we started to try even a little bit and definitely the reason we went full force last month! When we found out, she had told me to find a midwife or ob-gyn here to do the prenatal care. With Shawn, I was so young, I just did my own prenatal care - urine tests, measuring, blood pressure, and went out to Cali for checkups a few times. Then I flew out there a month before he was due and stayed a few months after. Now that I'm older, though, I think it's wiser to have somebody for prenatal care. I kinda freaked out when it happened because the last time I tried to find a midwife for Shawners I couldn't find one *nearly* experienced enough which is why we did it the way we did it.

This time for prenatal care I did a sh*t load of research and found one midwife here in Austin that I *thought* would be okay based on research. Then she didn't call me back for four days!! When she did, she was very nice and wonderful and thought she had called me back, but I had already moved on to checking with my regular family doctor since I hadn't heard back.

Then, when my regular family doctor didn't really have an answer for me, my friend recommended this place she's been working with through having her first after five miscarriages, and now working on having a second after three miscarriages. I am SO glad. Apparently they are all Christian there and are SO AMAZINGLY nice, I can't get over it. I feel better having a doctor connection since my midwife wouldn't have a doctor connection here in Texas (she still does in Cali), so that would give her a connection with someone who is familiar with my situation and is aware that she is coming if need be. She would come out for a week or two around the due date and we would pray the baby would come. So far she's made all her babies. They'd also deliver if need be and I have had three friends who have had vaginal births at that place, so I would feel okay delivering there if she wasn't here.

This is another blessing in disguise - these things would have been very difficult and emotional to decide on for me while pregnant because I want to feel an instant connection to people and I'm very protective of my body when pregnant. It was a good experience to find these people while not pregnant so that I don't immediately have a wall up. In addition, them realizing I needed the Rhogam shot and having my sister confirm it immediately when I called her before they gave it to me (my sister was at my first birth, the assistant at my second birth, and would be the assistant at my third and remembers me getting the shot with both boys) made me realize I needed to be there today.
